EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon National Guard joined forces with fellow military branches and veterans during the University of Oregon Spring Football Game, turning Autzen Stadium into a celebration of service and community on April 25, 2026.
Under clear blue skies, more than 35,000 fans gathered to watch the annual spring matchup while interacting with service members and honoring those connected to Oregon through military service. The event offered an early look at the Oregon Ducks football ahead of the upcoming NCAA season, while also recognizing veterans, active-duty personnel, and their families.
Before kickoff, service members, veterans, families, and local first responders carried a large American flag onto the field in a show of unity. Ben Pasi, a sergeant first class in the Oregon Army National Guard, performed the National Anthem. Moments later, two F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the 142nd Wing Oregon Air National Guard conducted a flyover, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Alan R. Gronewold, brigadier general and Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard, performed the ceremonial coin toss to officially begin the game.
Throughout the afternoon, military families and local veterans were recognized on the field. Halftime featured a group of new recruits and current service members reaffirming their commitments during an Oath of Enlistment ceremony led by Gronewold.
The day concluded with a longstanding tradition as players and service members exchanged T-shirts following the game. On the field, the “Combat Team” defeated the “Fighting Team” 17-10, capping a day that blended football with tributes to service and sacrifice.
