WASCO COUNTY, Ore. (April 15, 2026) — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in a crash involving an Oregon Department of Transportation vehicle on Interstate 84 near The Dalles, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the scene around 11:51 a.m. on April 14 near milepost 87. A preliminary investigation found that an ODOT attenuator vehicle was supporting a mobile brooming operation sweeping debris along the center median.
The attenuator vehicle, operated by Tristan David Service, 42, of The Dalles, was stationary in the left lane and positioned as a safety buffer for a sweeper ahead when it was struck from behind by a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The motorcycle operator, identified as Ryan Christopher King, 38, of West Richland, Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Service was not injured in the crash.
Emergency responders from the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, The Dalles Police Department, Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue, and ODOT assisted Oregon State Police at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
