SALEM, Ore. — Chemeketa Community College is inviting the public to an evening of live music blending garage rock and orchestral sound as The Hypnatwists take the stage April 22.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Chemeketa Auditorium in Building 6, located at 4000 Lancaster Drive NE in Salem, with parking available in the Purple Parking Area.
The performance will feature a collaboration between the Salem-based trio and members of the Salem Orchestra, combining the stripped-down energy of a three-piece rock band with the depth and texture of live string arrangements.
The evening will open with a 35-minute set of original music from The Hypnatwists, made up of Ruby on vocals and guitar, Tony on bass, and Zack on drums. The band, formed after a chance meeting at a concert in Portland, is known for its gritty, do-it-yourself garage rock style, incorporating surf-inspired guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and emotionally charged vocals. Attendees will also hear five previously unreleased songs.
Following a brief intermission, members of the Salem Orchestra will join the band for a second 35-minute set. The addition of orchestral strings is expected to expand the group’s sound, building on past collaborations, including a performance at Salem’s Riverfront Amphitheatre during Make Music Day 2025.
Organizers say the concert highlights the creativity and collaboration within Salem’s local arts scene and encourages attendees to arrive early for the full experience.
Tickets are available online through Eventbrite. Organizers note the event may be recorded.
