Salem, OR. — A Marion County judge has sentenced a 58-year-old man to 17 years in prison for multiple sexual abuse offenses involving a minor relative, prosecutors said.

Marion County Circuit Court Judge James Edmonds on April 13, 2026, sentenced David Lewis Rieben Jr. to 204 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections, followed by 60 months of post-prison supervision.

The charges stem from abuse that occurred between March 2008 and September 2013, when the victim was between 11 and 18 years old.

Following a seven-day trial, a Marion County jury on March 31, 2026, found Rieben guilty on seven counts, including three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of second-degree unlawful sexual penetration, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, and one count of third-degree sexual abuse.

The Marion County District Attorney’s Office credited the victim’s willingness to come forward and the investigative work of the Keizer Police Department, including Officer Timothy Lathrop. Deputy District Attorney Melissa Roberts prosecuted the case.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, authorities said no additional details will be released.

“Children in our community deserve to feel safe, be protected and cared for—especially by their family,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Brendan Murphy said, adding that family violence cases remain a priority for the office.

Officials also noted that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and encouraged anyone with concerns about child safety to contact the Oregon Child Abuse Hotline.
