MEDFORD, Ore. — A Medford man accused of multiple child sex crimes is in custody following an hours-long standoff with law enforcement Thursday, April 2, in south Medford.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), working with the Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET), arrested 38-year-old Glenn Edward Rise at a residence in the 3400 block of South Pacific Highway. The operation involved assistance from the Oregon Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Medford Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.
Authorities said Rise was wanted on 18 felony charges related to child sexual abuse. The charges include first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, along with two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. He also faces three counts of using a child in sexually explicit conduct, three counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, and eight counts of second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse. He is currently lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
Investigators with SOCET launched the case after Rise allegedly sent images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to undercover officers. That contact led to subpoenas and the execution of a search warrant at his residence.
During the search, the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force seized multiple digital devices. A forensic analysis of those devices reportedly uncovered hundreds of CSAM images, as well as evidence documenting the sexual abuse of a local minor.
SOCET, established in June 2020, is a multi-agency task force focused on combating child exploitation. It includes investigators from JCSO, the Medford Police Department, the Oregon Department of Justice ICAC Task Force, and Homeland Security Investigations, along with prosecutors from local, state, and federal agencies. The Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force also assisted in the investigation.
Authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
