Portland Man Sentenced to Over 5 Years in Prison for String of Apartment Burglaries

PORTLAND, Ore. — A 32-year-old Portland man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple burglary and theft charges tied to a series of break-ins across the city.

Daniel Dean Gallagher was sentenced to 65 months in prison—equivalent to five years and five months—after pleading guilty on March 30, 2026, to six counts of first-degree burglary and one count of first-degree theft. He will also serve three years of post-prison supervision following his release.

The case spans multiple incidents between 2023 and 2026, during which prosecutors say Gallagher targeted apartment complexes in Portland’s Pearl District and inner Southeast neighborhoods. Investigators linked him to more than 15 separate incidents.

According to authorities, Gallagher used specialized burglar tools to manipulate door sensors and locks, allowing him to gain access to secured areas within the buildings. Once inside, he stole items from apartment manager offices, bike storage rooms, and other resident storage areas.

Prosecutors said the crimes resulted in significant financial losses and disrupted residents’ sense of security.

Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Aileen Santoyo, who prosecuted the case, emphasized the broader impact of the crimes following the sentencing.

“Mr. Gallagher caused a significant amount of economic loss to the residents of Portland,” Santoyo said. “Many people had their bikes stolen and their personal property tampered with. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and I hope that Mr. Gallagher learns from this process and does not continue down the same path when he is eventually released.”

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office credited the work of Portland police officers Elliot Walker, Casey McCleod, Donald Mathews, JP Duque-Valencia, and Jackson Oldham for their role in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted under case numbers 24CR54809, 25CR59019, and 26CR16538.
