Salem, OR. — Salem police arrested a 29-year-old man Wednesday in connection with a January shooting in south Salem that left a vehicle damaged but no reported injuries.
Alexander Elsherbini, of Salem, was taken into custody on February 18 following a month-long investigation into a shooting reported January 17 around 6:55 p.m. near the 4700 block of Skyline Road S.
According to police, multiple callers reported hearing gunfire that evening. Officers responding to the area located three spent shell casings and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire. During a canvass of the neighborhood, investigators learned a black sedan had reportedly driven past the victim’s vehicle and fired shots toward it.
Detectives assigned to the Strategic Investigations Unit later identified Elsherbini as the suspected shooter.
On February 18, members of Salem’s SWAT team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Myers Street S, where Elsherbini was taken into custody without incident. During the search, investigators recovered two firearms, described as a bolt-action rifle and a handgun.
Elsherbini was lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree.
Authorities also arrested Brandon Garvin, 27, of Salem, at the same residence on an unrelated parole violation warrant. He was also lodged at the Marion County Jail.
Elsherbini is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. February 19 at the Marion County Court Annex, located at 4000 Aumsville Highway.
The investigation remains ongoing.
