Jefferson County, OR. — One person was killed and another injured Sunday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near milepost 102, according to the Oregon State Police.
OSP troopers responded to the crash at approximately 4:01 p.m. on February 9. Preliminary findings indicate a northbound Subaru Forester, driven by 51-year-old Aaron Lee Bottorff of La Grande, crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and struck a Jeep Cherokee head-on.
Bottorff was declared deceased at the scene.
The Jeep was operated by 34-year-old Brayan Gonzalez Celestino of Bend, who reportedly sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Highway 97 was impacted for roughly three hours while emergency responders conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the roadway.
OSP was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
