Roseburg, OR. — A traffic stop conducted by Oregon State Police on Interstate 5 near Roseburg led to the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine and cash, authorities said.
According to OSP, a state trooper stopped a southbound vehicle near milepost 153 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Sunday for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper learned the vehicle had been rented by an unknown third party who was not present, and neither occupant possessed a valid driver’s license.
Based on observations during the encounter, the trooper requested assistance from an OSP drug-detection K-9 team. The K-9 alerted to the exterior of the vehicle, prompting a search.
Troopers discovered approximately 11 pounds of cocaine and $24,000 in U.S. currency during the search, police said.
The investigation has been referred to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for follow-up. No additional details were released.
