Oregon — The Oregon Heritage Commission is now accepting applications for a statewide grant program supporting museums with projects focused on collections, heritage tourism, and education and interpretation.
Grant awards typically range from $2,000 to $10,000 and are available to qualified museums across Oregon. Eligible projects include collections-related work such as cataloging, archival storage improvements, disaster preparedness, and conservation. Museums may also apply for heritage tourism projects, including marketing and promotional efforts, visitor experience enhancements, and staff training.
Education and interpretation projects are also eligible for funding and may include exhibits, online learning initiatives, school programs, workshops, and camps. Museums may partner with other organizations on projects conducted outside museum facilities, provided the work aligns with the museum’s mission.
“Museums are the keepers of local, regional and state history and this program supports the collection, preservation and promotion of that history across the state,” said Oregon Heritage Coordinator Katie Henry.
The commission said the online grant application is designed to be user-friendly and includes extensive support materials. A free online workshop covering the grant program and application process will be held February 24 from 10 to 11 a.m. Advance registration is required, and recorded trainings and application tips are also available online.
The Oregon Heritage Commission consists of nine members appointed by the governor who represent the state’s geographic and heritage diversity, along with nine advisory representatives from state agencies and statewide organizations. The commission’s mission is to secure, sustain, and enhance Oregon’s heritage through coordination, advocacy, education, and celebration of the state’s diverse history.
