Battle Ground, WA. — The City of Battle Ground has announced plans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its incorporation, marking seven and a half decades of community growth, shared heritage, and forward-looking progress.
Battle Ground was officially incorporated on June 18, 1951, when it was still known as the Town of Battle Ground and home to just 742 residents. Since then, the city has grown into a thriving community of tens of thousands of residents and businesses.
“We are thrilled to honor 75 years of cityhood — a story of community spirit, civic pride, and endless potential,” said Eric Overholser, Mayor of Battle Ground. “This anniversary isn’t just a celebration of our history — it’s a celebration of the shared legacy Battle Ground is creating each and every day.”
The anniversary will be marked by a year-long celebration throughout 2026, featuring community engagement activities, events, and experiences designed to honor the city’s past, highlight its present, and inspire its future. While specific events are still being finalized, city officials said the celebration will focus on sharing historic milestones, encouraging broad community involvement, and showcasing plans that will guide Battle Ground into its next chapter.
The anniversary also offers an opportunity to reflect on the origins of the city’s name, which traces back to an 1855 encounter between early settlers and members of the Klickitat tribe. Despite expectations of conflict, the encounter ended peacefully and left a lasting mark on local history.
Residents are encouraged to stay connected throughout the year as additional details are released. Event announcements, schedules, volunteer opportunities, and historical features will be shared through the city’s official website and social media channels.
“This anniversary is about coming together as a community,” said Alisha Smith, communications manager for the city. “We invite everyone to take part in the celebration throughout the year.”
