Medford, OR. — Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District, which spans much of eastern and southern Oregon, is currently represented by Republican Cliff Bentz, who has held the seat since winning a special election in 2021 and securing reelection in both 2022 and 2024.
In the 2022 general election, Bentz defeated Democrat Joseph Yetter, winning by roughly 59 percent to 41 percent, reflecting the district’s long-standing Republican tilt. He was reelected again in 2024, again by a comfortable margin, against a Democratic challenger in a race that mirrored similar partisan dynamics, with Bentz carrying most rural counties decisively.
Despite the district’s electoral history, Democrats are organizing early for the 2026 cycle. On February 1, the Jackson County Democrats are hosting a Congressional District 2 Candidate Forum in Medford, providing voters an opportunity to hear directly from the four Democrats competing in the party’s primary.
The Democratic primary field includes Mary Doyle, Rebecca Mueller, Dawn Rasmussen, and Patty Snow, each bringing different professional and political backgrounds to the race. While policy differences remain to be fully outlined, all four candidates have emphasized themes common among Democrats in the district: access to health care, public lands management, disapproval of Rep. Cliff Bentz, and concerns about federal representation.
The forum will be held at Oakdale Middle School in Medford and is open to the public. Organizers say the event is intended to increase voter engagement and visibility for the primary, which will determine who advances to face Bentz in the general election.
Oregon’s 2nd District has been represented by Republicans for decades, but Democrats argue that changing economic pressures, health care access issues, and federal land management debates continue to create openings for competitive races. The outcome of the Democratic primary will determine which candidate carries that argument forward into a general election campaign against one of the state’s most electorally secure incumbents.
