Salem, OR. — During a public work session last week, the Board of Directors for the Salem Area Mass Transit District (Cherriots) announced that General Manager Allan Pollock intends to retire this July, concluding one of the most transformative leadership tenures in the agency’s history.
Pollock, who has served as general manager since 2007, said his decision comes with deep pride in the agency’s evolution and the dedication of its workforce.
“Serving as the Cherriots General Manager these past 19 years has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Pollock said. “We have accomplished much because of the great people who work here as part of Team Cherriots. I thank all of them for their loyalty and commitment to this organization.”
A Legacy of Community Connection
During Pollock’s tenure, Cherriots underwent significant modernization, including a comprehensive rebranding, restoration of weekend and late-night transit services, and a strategic shift toward sustainable, zero-emission transportation options serving the Salem-Keizer community.
Board President Maria Hinojos Pressey praised Pollock’s leadership and emphasized continuity during the upcoming transition.
“Allan has been a cornerstone of this organization and the community for nearly two decades,” Hinojos Pressey said. “His stewardship paved the way for a thriving system. The Board is committed to a thoughtful transition process that builds on this progress while preparing for the next chapter of mobility in the Salem-Keizer community.”
Transition and Search Process
The Cherriots Board of Directors is expected to begin a recruitment process for a new general manager in the coming weeks. Pollock has committed to leading the district through July to support a smooth leadership transition once a successor is selected.
While acknowledging there is still work ahead, Pollock said he remains focused on ensuring the agency is well-positioned for future challenges and opportunities in public transportation.
