Clackamas County, OR. — A suspect is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting Friday evening in unincorporated Clackamas County, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began just after 5:30 p.m. on December 5, when Wilsonville Police deputies—who are contracted through the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office—responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a moving vehicle. Two deputies located the vehicle near SW Stafford Road and SW 65th Avenue around 5:45 p.m.
When the vehicle came to a stop, officials say the lone occupant exited and charged at deputies while wielding an axe. An officer-involved shooting occurred, and no deputies were injured.
Deputies immediately provided lifesaving medical aid until Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Per agency policy, the two deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave.
The Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team—led by detectives from the Lake Oswego and West Linn Police Departments, with assistance from Canby and Milwaukie Police—is conducting the investigation in coordination with the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office. Further updates will be released by the District Attorney’s Office.
Earlier in the evening, the Sheriff’s Office advised that SW Stafford Road would remain closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
The Clackamas County Officer Involved Critical Incident Agreement is available online through the Sheriff’s Office.
