Oregon – The Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) has opened investigations into 68 potential violations after visiting 429 job sites statewide as part of a coordinated national enforcement effort led by the National Association of State Contractor Licensing Agencies (NASCLA).
Between October 13 and 24, CCB investigators conducted field sweeps across Oregon to identify unlicensed contractor activity, focusing on advertising, bidding, and on-site work being done without proper licensing. About 25 percent of the potential violations involved unlicensed work, while others included lead-based paint violations, lack of workers’ compensation insurance, and failure to register an Assumed Business Name (ABN).
“Unlicensed contractors can undercut the bidding process, use substandard materials, and leave homeowners liable for workplace injuries,” said CCB Enforcement Manager Vena Swanson. “These sweeps deter illegal activity and protect both homeowners and licensed contractors.”
A first offense for operating without a license typically results in a $1,000 fine, with repeat violations reaching up to $5,000.
The CCB reminds homeowners to verify contractor licenses before starting projects, noting that licensed contractors carry bonds and insurance that protect consumers. License verification and complaint reporting are available at search.ccb.state.or.us or by calling 503-378-4621.
