Salem, OR. — A domestic violence investigation late Monday night led to the arrest of a Salem man on multiple felony charges, including weapons and drug trafficking offenses.
Around 9:30 p.m. on October 27, Salem Police officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a southeast Salem residence. The suspect, Jeffery Helmer, 40, allegedly menaced the victim earlier in the evening with both a knife and a firearm before fleeing.
Following interviews and evidence review, officers established probable cause for several felony charges. Helmer was located later that night at a bar on Lancaster Drive NE and taken into custody without incident.
A search of his vehicle revealed a stolen handgun believed to have been used in the domestic incident, along with evidence of cocaine delivery and manufacturing.
Helmer was booked into jail on charges including domestic violence menacing, unlawful use and possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and cocaine delivery and manufacturing, among other offenses.
He is scheduled for arraignment today, October 28, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., at the Marion County Circuit Court Annex, 4000 Aumsville Hwy SE, Salem. Since Helmer remains in custody, all further media inquiries are being handled by the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
