La Grande, OR. — The La Grande Police Department is alerting residents and local businesses to a rise in counterfeit “Motion Picture” money being used in the community.
The fake bills closely resemble real U.S. currency, with similar size and texture, making them difficult to spot at first glance. However, they can be identified by key markings such as “For Motion Picture Use Only” or “This Is Not Legal Tender.” The counterfeit bills also fail standard security checks like UV light tests and lack genuine watermarks.
Police urge businesses and residents to carefully inspect cash during transactions and to train employees on how to recognize these fraudulent notes.
Anyone who encounters one of these fake bills or suspects an attempt to pass counterfeit currency is asked to contact the La Grande Police Department at 541-963-1017.
