Portland, OR. — The Portland Police Bureau has identified the victim and suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown Portland on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Douglas Ivers of Portland. According to the Oregon State Medical Examiner, Ivers died of a gunshot wound, and his death has been ruled a homicide. His family has been notified and has requested privacy during this time.
The shooting took place around 3:30 p.m. near Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street. Officers from the Central Precinct responded to the scene and found Ivers with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
Shortly after the incident, officers identified a suspect and pursued him on foot. The suspect was apprehended quickly near Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Alder Street.
The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Hassan M. Muse of Portland. He has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
