Boulder, CO. — A peaceful pro-Israel gathering in downtown Boulder turned violent Sunday when a man allegedly threw incendiary devices at demonstrators, injuring several participants. The FBI is now investigating the incident as a potential act of terrorism targeting Jewish community members.
The attack occurred during a weekly demonstration known as “Run For Their Lives”, organized by local residents to show solidarity with hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The event was taking place near Pearl Street Mall when, according to police and eyewitness reports, a suspect hurled what appeared to be Molotov cocktails into the crowd.
The Boulder Police department held a press conference to address preliminary information. The attack occurred about 1:26pm, initial calls reported that there was a man with a weapon and people were being set on fire. Multiple victims were identified with burn injuries, they were quickly transported to the hospital. The suspect was identified by law enforcement and taken into custody. As of the press conference the surrounding area was closed off as police work to ensure the public’s safety. Boulder Police Chief Redfearn called the act unacceptable. The Chief noted that there was a pro-Israel demonstration happening and they were interviewing witnesses but he did not want to speculate about the motivation behind the attack at this time.

In a statement shared by the FBI’s D.C. Bureau, officials confirmed the agency is treating the incident as a “targeted terror attack.” The suspect’s motives have not yet been formally released, but investigators are reportedly focusing on potential antisemitic intent given the nature of the event and its participants.
