Oaks Park was our family’s place for fun beginning in the 50’s when my four brothers and I were young. Picnics, carnival rides (especially bumper cars), and frequent roller skating were the usual activities into our 20’s in the 70’s. It makes me very happy that the rink and organ remain as a primary attraction. I loved watching the organist play music. My aunt and uncle competed there as a couple in the 40s. I met my future (ex)husband at the rink. He was a very good skater. My two “kids” (adults with teenage+ kids now) are my greatest blessings in life. Haven’t been there in many years since I live three hours away on the coast. I need to put a trip back to Oaks Park on my bucket list.
