March 25, 2024 – Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer: Chavez-DeRemer Helps Secure $1.29 Million for Bend Municipal Airport’s New Air Traffic Control Tower
After asking the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allocate needed funding for the construction of a permanent control tower at the Bend Municipal Airport, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) announced the airport will receive $1.29 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to invest in the project. This is in addition to the $1.6 million Chavez-DeRemer helped secure last year.
“I wish to thank Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer for her continued support. This $1,290,000 grant from the Transportation and Infrastructure program will fund a portion of the construction cost of an air traffic control tower at the Bend Municipal Airport, create good paying jobs, and enhance safety while boosting the local economy. With only 1-2 new towers constructed annually nation-wide, we are fortunate to have her support,” said Tracy Williams, Bend Airport Manager.
“Oregon’s regional airports support all kinds of economic activity, from transporting goods to providing Oregonians with connections to various destinations across the country. It’s critical that we keep our airport infrastructure up to date to maintain a resilient supply chain and a healthy economy. I’ll continue supporting efforts to utilize funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to invest in Oregon and Oregon’s economy,” Chavez-DeRemer said.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law contains $5 billion to provide regional airports with grant opportunities. Following a competitive application process, the federal government awarded grants to airports that are seeking to update crumbling infrastructure, including to improve air traffic control towers and increase airport capacity and safety.
