January 3, 2024 – Rep. Jami Cate: Facebook Post
The Governor recently sent a letter to the Corps pointing a finger at them for who’s to blame for killing fish and the horrific water quality our communities have had to suffer, and utterly ignored the State’s role in these draw downs of our dams–dismissing the Corps’ extensive concerns while staunchly advocating with the plaintiffs, even assuring the judge that all potential conflicts had been taken care of.
In response, I joined with communities throughout the Willamette River Basin in sending our own letter to Governor Kotek that the State can’t keep ignoring their responsibility in these deep drawdowns, and the damages our communities are enduring because of them.
Government agencies should be held accountable for their decisions, and stop leaving communities holding the bag for the very high cost of their unilateral priorities.
