On December 21, 2023 Oregon City announced that after an extensive, months-long recruitment and interview process, current Scapoose City Manager Alexandra Rains has been chosen as the top candidate. She takes over the role on February 5.
Rains has a Masters degree in Public Administration, which has been put to use in Scapoose for the past eight years. She’s served in multiple roles in her time there, including both as City Manager and Assistant City Manager.
“I’m incredibly excited to start with Oregon City and serve the community. It’s a city I’m familiar with, I spent years there as a child and have really fond memories. I’m really looking forward to getting back,” she said.
Rains rose to the top of a long list of candidates who applied for the position from throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. After the initial screening, several candidates were interviewed and the top three candidates were invited for two more panel interviews and a public open house to answer questions and meet with staff and the community.
The Assistant City Manager position answers directly to City Manager Tony Konkol, who is excited to have Rains join the team.
“Throughout the entire process Alexendra impressed myself and those she met with. Her professionalism, skills and experience all stood out to make her the top candidate. I know she will be an excellent addition to the Administration here at Oregon City and am looking forward to working with her.”
With areas of responsibility increasing at a rate that outpaces capacity, the position was recreated to handle management over some of the City’s department directors, assist with large-scale projects and ensure the implementation of the City’s goals and priorities, among other responsibilities.
