OAK GROVE, Ore. – A 75-year-old Portland woman died Thursday after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Highway 99E in Oak Grove, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers responded to the fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at approximately 8:42 a.m. October 29 near milepost 7.5, close to Holly Avenue.

The preliminary investigation determined that a northbound white Kia Soul, driven by Linda Jean Braskett, 76, of Portland, struck Janice Mae Gilliland, 75, as she attempted to cross the highway in an unmarked crosswalk.

Gilliland was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Braskett was not injured, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. She was subsequently cited for failing to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian.

The crash affected traffic on Highway 99E for approximately one hour while emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Port of Portland Police, Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted Oregon State Police with the response.
