Oregon — The Republican Governors Association contributed $2 million to State Senator Christine Drazan’s governor campaign on October 16, 2026, according to the Secretary of State’s online campaign finance database. The contribution was first reported Friday, according to the records.

The contribution is in addition to $1 million the RGA gave the Drazan campaign on October 8.

The RGA’s second, and larger, contribution suggests the group, the national campaign organization seeking to elect Republican governors, sees Kotek as vulnerable even as Republicans face significant headwinds in the upcoming midterm election.

The contribution comes as Drazan and incumbent Democrat Tina Kotek are locked in a tight race, according to recent polling. A poll commissioned by Oregon Public Broadcasting and conducted September 17 – 27 had Drazan leading by one point. Another poll conducted by The Oregonian, conducted September 24 – October 1 showed Kotek leading by two points. Both poll results were within the margins of error.

The RGA contribution was reported by the Drazan campaign to the Secretary of State Friday, according to state records.

Kotek retains a significant cash advantage, with state records showing nearly $2 million cash on hand. The state shows Drazan with just less than $700,000 cash on hand. Campaign finance records can lag reality because campaigns are required to report contributions and expenditures within seven days of the transactions.

This is a developing story.

Update: Oregon Journalism Project reported Friday or thereafter, but before this Oregon Roundup article, on the new $2 million RGA contribution in an update to a story originally published October 21. The original version of the OJP story, which Oregon Roundup reviewed before publishing this article, did not include the new $2 million reported to the state Friday.
