Medford Opens New Fire Station 15, Replacing Facility That Served More Than 50 Years
Medford, OR. — The Medford Fire Department celebrated the opening of its new Fire Station 15 on Oct. 10, replacing a facility that served the community for more than 50 years.
Located at 2124 Roberts Road, the new station houses an engine company and an emergency medical services squad. It includes spaces designed to support firefighter health, safety, training and daily operations, according to the city’s Oct. 13 announcement.
The project also includes a centralized Support Services facility intended to improve the department’s equipment, supply and logistics operations.
Community members joined city leaders, firefighters and project partners for the grand opening. The event included remarks from Fire Chief Eric Thompson, elected officials and project representatives, followed by a ceremonial hose uncoupling. Visitors toured the station, met firefighters and participated in family activities.
“Today, we begin the next chapter,” Thompson said. “This is your fire station. It belongs to the community, and it represents our continued commitment to the people who live, work, and visit here.”
The project involved collaboration among city leadership, the fire department, ORW Architecture and Outlier Construction. Thompson also recognized former Building and Safety Director Sam Barnum, who served as the city’s project manager, along with city employees and department members involved in completing the facility.
The city’s announcement did not specify the project’s cost, funding sources or anticipated effects on emergency response times.
