Two Injured in Tigard House Fire That Destroyed Home
TIGARD, Ore. — Two people were hospitalized after a house fire early Wednesday morning that destroyed a home in Tigard. Several family pets are also believed to have died in the fire.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) crews were dispatched shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday to a reported house fire at 15180 Southwest Sunrise Lane. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming from multiple sides of the home.
Two people were injured in the fire. One suffered burns, while the other jumped from a balcony to escape the flames. TVF&R paramedics treated both victims at the scene before transporting them to a hospital for further care. The three other occupants of the home evacuated safely without injuries.
Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters deployed hose lines around all sides of the structure and attacked the flames from outside. As the fire spread, portions of the home’s walls and ceilings collapsed, creating additional hazards for emergency crews.
Firefighters faced challenges with the water supply, as only one fire hydrant was available at the scene. Crews carefully managed the available water while working to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby trees and shrubs.
Despite the difficult conditions, firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control. However, the fire destroyed the home, and the family has made alternative living arrangements.
The fire also resulted in the loss of several family pets. One of the family’s dogs alerted the homeowners to the fire but is believed to have died in the blaze. A second dog escaped safely. The family’s pet birds are also presumed to have died.
Approximately 25 emergency response vehicles and apparatus assisted with the incident. TVF&R was supported by American Medical Response, the Tigard Police Department, Northwest Natural and Portland General Electric.
