LOOKINGGLASS, Ore. — One man is dead and a 57-year-old Lookingglass resident is in custody following an apparent homicide at a residence on Lookingglass Road Sunday afternoon.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 911 dispatchers received a call shortly after 3:45 p.m. on October 11 from Matthew William Bronsert, 57, requesting assistance at a property in the 7000 block of Lookingglass Road. Bronsert lived in an outbuilding on the property.

Deputies responded and attempted to speak with Bronsert, who eventually came out of the residence at approximately 5:53 p.m. During the encounter, Bronsert allegedly attempted to assault a deputy and was taken into custody.

During subsequent questioning, Bronsert admitted to shooting the victim, according to authorities.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated and is leading the investigation. The team includes investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department and Oregon State Police, working in consultation with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

Assisting agencies included the Lookingglass Rural Fire District, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, and the Sutherlin and Winston police departments.
