Transit Police Operation in Northeast Portland Results in 14 Arrests
MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — A high-visibility law enforcement operation targeting drug activity and other public safety concerns along Portland’s public transit system resulted in 14 arrests on October 6, 2026, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
The four-hour operation focused on the transit station near Northeast 122nd Avenue and East Burnside Street. Led by the sheriff’s office through TriMet Transit Police, the enforcement effort also resulted in 19 code violations and five traffic stops.
One person received a transit exclusion, prohibiting them from entering TriMet property. Four of those arrested were charged with delivering controlled substances, including fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The operation was conducted as part of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Enhanced Public Safety Initiative, which aims to address drug activity and other public safety concerns affecting Northeast Portland and public transit corridors.
Several law enforcement agencies and specialized units participated in the effort, including TriMet Transit Police, the Portland Police Bureau’s North Precinct Neighborhood Response Team, the sheriff’s office Corrections Transport Unit and its Airborne Law Enforcement Support Team.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office leads the multi-agency TriMet Transit Police, whose officers and deputies patrol buses, trains, platforms and stations. They also respond to calls for service and investigate crimes occurring on TriMet property throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties.
Other agencies involved in Transit Police include the Portland Police Bureau, Port of Portland Police Department, Beaverton Police Department, Hillsboro Police Department, Lake Oswego Police Department and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
Officials said the enforcement mission was part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety in Northeast Portland and along the region’s public transportation system.
