Oregon City Nurse Arrested in Investigation of Abuse of One-Year-Old Child

OREGON CITY, Ore. — Oregon City police have arrested a registered nurse accused of repeatedly physically abusing a one-year-old child who required in-home medical care because of several complex medical conditions.

The Oregon City Police Department began investigating the case on September 18, 2026, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Human Services, after suspicious injuries were observed on the child.

During the investigation, detectives determined that 33-year-old Devante Jermaine Hamilton, who had been working as the child’s in-home nurse, allegedly physically abused the child on multiple occasions over a period of several months.

Hamilton was taken into custody by Oregon City Police detectives on September 24 and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail.

He was booked on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment, third-degree assault, harassment and menacing.

Police said Hamilton is a registered nurse in Oregon and has worked in various health care settings with vulnerable patients.
