Driver Dies in Head-On Crash on Highway 97 in Klamath County

A 27-year-old Chiloquin man was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in Klamath County, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash was reported at about 9:12 p.m. Sept. 20 near milepost 255.

According to the preliminary investigation, David Wayne Slone was driving a blue Lincoln Navigator southbound on Highway 97 when he attempted to pass another southbound vehicle. The Lincoln crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Freightliner semi-truck towing a 53-foot trailer.

The semi was driven by 33-year-old Narinder Addr Singh of Yuba City, California.

Slone was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he is not believed to have been wearing a seat belt.

Singh was not injured. A passenger in the Lincoln suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Highway 97 was affected for about four hours while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

Oregon State Police said impairment and speed are believed to have contributed to the crash.

OSP was assisted by Chiloquin Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
