Two Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 26 in Wasco County

WASCO COUNTY, Ore. — Two people were killed Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Wasco County, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:16 p.m. Sept. 14 near milepost 74.

Oregon State Police said a gold Volvo semi-truck hauling a 53-foot intermodal container was traveling eastbound when its driver, identified as 31-year-old Dagoberto Moreno-Prada of Eugene, lost control while navigating a corner.

The semi-truck and trailer rolled and slid into the westbound lane, where it was struck head-on by a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 35-year-old J. Natividad Martinez-Colin of Vancouver, Washington.

The collision caused the intermodal container—a large steel container used to transport freight—to become dislodged from the trailer. The container and Jeep went through a guardrail and came to rest off the roadway. The semi-truck continued rolling several times before coming to rest on the highway.

Moreno-Prada and Martinez-Colin were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was affected for approximately eight hours as authorities investigated the crash and crews recovered the vehicles.

The Oregon State Police investigation was assisted by Warm Springs Fire & Safety, the Warm Springs Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
