The crash was reported at about 12:40 p.m. Aug. 18 near milepost 80, approximately 16 miles east of Astoria.
According to the preliminary investigation, a gray Ford F-350 pickup driven by Roger Dale McGilvey, 73, of Ocean Park, Washington, was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 when it rear-ended a tan Chevrolet Malibu driven by Benny Roy Parker, 86, of Astoria.

Parker was ejected from the Chevrolet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
McGilvey and Groenke suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
