BEND, Ore. — A 50-year-old Bend man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly threatening a man and his dog before firing multiple rounds from a firearm at a residence in northeast Bend.
Bend Police responded at approximately 8:48 p.m. Aug. 12 to a reported dispute in the 2700 block of NE Great Horned Place.
According to police, the incident began when a man was walking his dog along Rainier Drive. The dog began barking at deer, and the man pulled the dog away and continued walking. As he passed a residence on Great Horned Place, the man reported hearing a man yelling threats at him from the home.
The suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Joshua Lee Russell of Bend, allegedly threatened to shoot and kill the man and his dog.
After the man continued past Russell’s residence, he reported hearing multiple gunshots. Several other people also called 911 to report hearing gunfire in the area.
Officers responded to Russell’s home, established a perimeter and called him out of the residence. Russell was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Deschutes County Jail.
Russell was arrested on suspicion of menacing, second-degree disorderly conduct and unlawful use of a weapon.
Detectives later obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence. Investigators reportedly found eight spent rounds in a trash can, an AR-style rifle and evidence indicating that the firearm had been discharged into the grass in the yard.
A large police presence remained in the neighborhood for approximately four hours during the response. The operation included members of the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team, armored vehicles and drones.
The case remains under investigation.
