BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Washington County Circuit Court judge has sentenced a Beaverton man to 70 months in prison for shooting his 16-year-old girlfriend during an incident at a Beaverton home in November 2024.
Sky Alexander Korbut, now 20, was sentenced last week to 70 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections after being convicted of Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
The case began on November 21, 2024, at approximately 4:55 a.m., when Beaverton police officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a residence on Southwest Prairie Terrace.
According to investigators, Korbut, who was 18 years old at the time, called 911 and told dispatchers he had accidentally shot his 16-year-old girlfriend.
When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
Korbut was initially arrested on charges of Assault in the Third Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. However, as detectives continued their investigation, they uncovered additional evidence, including statements from the victim that contradicted Korbut’s account of the shooting.
Based on the evidence gathered, a Washington County grand jury later indicted Korbut on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, a Measure 11 offense, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Following a week-long jury trial in April 2026, jurors found Korbut guilty on both charges.
Last week, a Washington County Circuit Court judge imposed a sentence of 70 months in prison. Korbut will serve his sentence in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections.
