MARION COUNTY, Ore. — A 79-year-old Woodburn man was killed after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross Highway 99E near Woodburn, according to the Oregon State Police.
The fatal crash occurred on Highway 99E near milepost 33, close to Cleveland Street.
A preliminary investigation found that a gold Ford Expedition, driven by Eduardo Felix Diaz, 24, of Woodburn, was traveling northbound on Highway 99E when it struck Howard Roy Hagen, 79, of Woodburn, who was attempting to cross the highway on a bicycle.
Hagen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Diaz was not injured in the collision. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The crash closed or impacted the highway for approximately 4.5 hours while emergency crews investigated the scene.
The Oregon State Police were assisted by the Woodburn Fire District, Woodburn Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
