LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A 75-year-old Eugene man died after falling from a watercraft on the McKenzie River Monday afternoon, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 4:10 p.m. on July 20, deputies with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and crews from Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a report of a person who had fallen from a watercraft near the Clearwater Landing.
Fire personnel rescued the man from the river and quickly transported him to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died from his injuries.
The victim was identified as Shabbir Ali Kahn Panni, 75, of Eugene.
Officials said the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office is continuing to review the cause of death. No additional information has been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
