ROSEBURG, Ore. — A 30-year-old man has been arrested on murder charges following a fatal stabbing early Wednesday morning in Roseburg that left one man dead.
According to the Roseburg Police Department, officers and deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 1:42 a.m. on July 22 to the 200 block of SE Pine Street, an area commonly referred to as “The Point,” after receiving reports of a stabbing.
When first responders arrived, they found Patrick Shane Belleci, 40, suffering from a severe stab wound and bleeding heavily. Belleci was transported by Umpqua Valley Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated to investigate the homicide.
Investigators identified Tyler Loyd Whitehead, 30, as the suspect. Authorities said Whitehead fled the scene following the stabbing but later turned himself in to law enforcement near Winchester and Nash Street in Roseburg.
Whitehead was arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
The Roseburg Police Department credited the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, Roseburg Fire Department, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance for assisting with the investigation and emergency response.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
