Federal Grand Jury Indicts Man Accused of Trafficking Methamphetamine for Beaverton-Based Criminal Organization

PORTLAND, Ore. — A federal grand jury in Portland has indicted a 23-year-old man on charges of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute following an investigation into a Beaverton-based transnational criminal organization allegedly involved in drug and firearms trafficking.

According to federal court documents, Jonathann Uriel Ayala Garcia, 23, was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after investigators linked him to an organization accused of trafficking methamphetamine, cocaine, and firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Authorities said the agencies had been investigating the criminal organization before arresting Ayala Garcia in June 2026 after he arrived to complete a narcotics sale.

A search of Ayala Garcia’s vehicle allegedly uncovered approximately 16.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and 168.3 grams of heroin, according to prosecutors.

Ayala Garcia made his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday before a U.S. magistrate judge, where he pleaded not guilty. The court ordered him detained pending trial, which is scheduled to begin on September 15, 2026.

If convicted, Ayala Garcia faces a maximum sentence of life in federal prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a $10 million fine.

U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced the indictment. The DEA and ATF are continuing the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Hermann is prosecuting the case.

Federal officials said the investigation is part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative established under Executive Order 14159. The multi-agency task force focuses on disrupting transnational criminal organizations, drug trafficking networks, human trafficking operations, and other organized criminal activity through coordinated federal, state, and local law enforcement efforts.

An indictment is an allegation of criminal conduct. Ayala Garcia is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
