One Dead, Five Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 18 in Tillamook County
TILLAMOOK COUNTY, Ore. — One person was killed and five others were injured, four of them seriously, in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon on Highway 18 near Otis, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 1:18 p.m. on May 30 near milepost 13.5.
A preliminary investigation determined that a black Cadillac sedan, driven by Brandon Westly Joslin, 42, of Scotts Mills, was traveling eastbound on Highway 18 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The Cadillac crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a gray Hyundai Sonata.
A passenger in the Cadillac, Patrick John Stubblefield, 42, of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joslin sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The Hyundai was driven by Hannah Louise Parsons, 23, of Elgin, who was also seriously injured in the collision. Two adult passengers riding in the Hyundai were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries as well.
Highway 18 was impacted for approximately three hours while investigators processed the crash scene and crews cleared the roadway.
The Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Grand Ronde Emergency Services, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
