GRANT COUNTY, Ore. — A 16-year-old girl was killed early Friday morning after being ejected from a vehicle during a single-vehicle crash on Highway 395 in Grant County, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, near milepost 15 on Highway 395.
A preliminary investigation found that a blue Toyota Prius, driven by a 17-year-old female, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle skidded across the southbound lane, crossed the gravel shoulder, and traveled down a steep embankment.
A 16-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The 17-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities said impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the crash. The highway remained open during the investigation and traffic was not affected.
The Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Mountain Hospital Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
