SALEM, Ore. — SOLVE is bringing its popular Pick It Up! community cleanup series to Salem for the first time, inviting volunteers to help clean and restore one of the city’s most popular public spaces during the inaugural Pick It Up, Salem! event on Friday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at Cascades Gateway Park.
Volunteers will gather near Walter Wirth Lake before breaking into teams to remove litter throughout the park and surrounding areas. Organizers say the effort will help keep the community space clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Cleanup supplies, including litter grabbers, gloves, safety vests, and collection bags, will be provided. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate.
The Pick It Up! program is SOLVE’s regional cleanup initiative designed to bring residents, businesses, and community organizations together to care for shared public spaces across the region. The program has expanded from its origins in Portland and Vancouver to additional communities including Milwaukie, Bend, and Medford, with Salem now joining the effort.
The first Pick It Up, Salem! event is supported by sponsors including Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics, Lithia & Driveway, and Harper Houf Peterson Righellis Inc..
Residents interested in participating can visit SOLVE’s website for event details and registration information.
SOLVE has worked since 1969 to bring communities together to protect the environment and improve waterways. The organization has grown from a grassroots volunteer effort into a statewide model of environmental action, mobilizing thousands of volunteers across Oregon and Southwest Washington to clean and restore neighborhoods, natural areas, and public spaces.
