ROSEBURG, Ore. — Three men were injured following a fight and reported gunfire at a gathering near Roseburg early Tuesday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just after midnight on June 30 to the 2200 block of Colonial Road after receiving reports of a disturbance involving multiple gunshots.
When deputies arrived, they found the residence vacant. Investigators said no one was at the scene, but deputies observed multiple empty beer cans and other evidence indicating a party had recently taken place.
A short time later, authorities learned that three individuals had arrived at Mercy Medical Center seeking treatment for injuries they sustained during the incident. The injured men were identified as 21-year-old Beto Cortez of Coos Bay, 21-year-old Christopher Bocanegra of North Bend, and 21-year-old Carlos Lopez of Roseburg.
According to investigators, the three men told deputies they had learned about the party through social media and decided to attend. During the gathering, Cortez was confronted by another man who accused him of stealing. The confrontation escalated when the man allegedly swung at Cortez, leading to a physical fight.
The victims reported that approximately 10 additional people joined the altercation. Bocanegra and Lopez said they attempted to separate Cortez from the group but were also assaulted by multiple individuals.
After escaping the crowd, the three men ran to their vehicle. As they were leaving, they reported hearing multiple gunshots.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the disturbance or those involved is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office and reference case number 26-2012.
The Oregon State Police assisted with the investigation.
