DALLAS, Ore. — A Polk County jury has found a Dallas man guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his brother outside a Dallas home in November 2024.
Alonzo E. Rowell, 52, was convicted of Murder in the Second Degree in connection with the death of his brother, Tony Miller, 54, following a trial in Polk County Circuit Court. In addition to the murder conviction, the jury found Rowell guilty of Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Reckless Endangering Another Person.
Rowell is scheduled to be sentenced on July 24 by Polk County Circuit Judge Rafael A. Caso.
According to prosecutors, the shooting occurred on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at Miller’s Dallas residence. Authorities said Rowell fatally shot his brother before leaving the scene and driving to his former workplace, the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.
Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to the prison, where Rowell engaged in a brief standoff with Salem police and other responding officers before surrendering and being taken into custody without further incident.
The case was prosecuted by Polk County District Attorney Aaron Felton, Chief Deputy District Attorney Matthew Wilson, and Deputy District Attorney Kaylee Hudson.
The investigation involved the Dallas Police Department, Salem Police Department, Oregon State Police, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
