WOOD VILLAGE, Ore. — A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Wood Village grocery store Tuesday evening, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
Kenneth William Nevills Jr. was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and is currently being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces charges including Second-Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Nevills Jr. is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in Multnomah County Circuit Court, Courtroom No. 3 at the Justice Center.
The investigation began around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the 22800 block of Northeast Park Lane.
Responding deputies and emergency personnel located a victim outside the Fred Meyer store. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, the victim was pronounced dead.
Authorities said Nevills Jr. was apprehended shortly after the shooting near the intersection of Northeast Glisan Street and Northeast 202nd Avenue.
Investigators have not released details about what led to the shooting, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office credited the East County Major Crimes Team for its assistance in the investigation. The task force includes detectives from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Port of Portland Police Department, Gresham Police Department and Oregon State Police.
Officials emphasized that the charges against Nevills Jr. are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
No additional information has been released as detectives continue their investigation.
