AUMSVILLE, Ore. — A 1-year-old girl died Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle on a rural property near Aumsville, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:52 p.m. on May 30, 2026, following a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash involving the young child. The incident occurred on private property in a rural area outside Aumsville.
Emergency responders and sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Despite rescue efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. No arrests have been made, and officials have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
In a statement, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a tragedy and expressed condolences to the family and others affected.
“This is a heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts and condolences are with the child’s family and all those affected,” the agency said.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office noted that the investigation remains active and that no further information is available at this time.
Officials also thanked members of the Sheriff’s Office CRASH Team, Criminal Investigations Unit, Stayton Police Department, Stayton Fire District, Santiam Ambulance, METCOM 911, the Willamette Valley Communications Center (WVCC), and the Willamette Valley First Responder Chaplains for their assistance in responding to the incident and supporting those involved.
