PRINEVILLE, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will temporarily close portions of the Millican Plateau and North Millican off-highway vehicle (OHV) trail systems from June 5 through June 7 to accommodate an annual side-by-side race.
The closures will affect the racecourse and several access points within the area as officials work to ensure the safety of racers, spectators, and other recreationists.
Security personnel will be stationed at entrance points along the racecourse throughout the event weekend. Flaggers and informational signage will also be placed along George Millican Road and at key trail access points to direct visitors and provide closure information. Officials encourage riders to review trail closure maps before traveling to the area.
“We’re committed to providing recreation opportunities while keeping everyone safe,” said Lisa Clark, manager of the BLM’s Deschutes Field Office. “With more than 250 miles of trails within the Millican Plateau, North Millican, and South Millican OHV Trail Systems, visitors can still access a wide range of riding locations during the event.”
While portions of the trail network will be unavailable, riders can continue to enjoy alternative recreation areas, including the South Millican OHV Trail System, located south of U.S. Highway 20 from George Millican Road, and the Cline Buttes area west of Redmond.
The Millican Valley OHV Trail System is managed through a collaborative partnership known as the Central Oregon Combined Off Highway Vehicle Operations (COHVOPS). The partnership includes the Prineville District BLM, the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, and the Oregon Parks and Recreation ATV Program.
