MEDFORD, Ore. — A 21-year-old man has been arrested following a late-night shooting outside the IN-N-OUT restaurant on Crater Lake Highway that left a 19-year-old man hospitalized, according to the Medford Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Friday, May 29, at the popular restaurant location. When officers arrived, they discovered a 19-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound, along with three other individuals standing outside a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in a nearby parking lot.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle had fled the area immediately after the shooting. While attempting to leave, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a tree.
Emergency responders transported the injured victim to a local hospital, where he was treated and admitted for his injuries. Authorities have not released an update on his condition.
As officers continued their investigation, they located and detained a suspect in the nearby Target shopping center parking lot. Detectives and forensic personnel responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
Following the investigation, police arrested 21-year-old Ivan Ortiz on charges of First-Degree Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was lodged in jail pending further proceedings.
