Oregon — Patti Adair has won the Republican primary for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, defeating Jonathan Lockwood and advancing to a general election matchup against incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative Janelle Bynum.
According to unofficial election results, Adair received 59.52% of the Republican primary vote with 41,350 votes, compared to Lockwood’s 39.71% and 27,587 votes. On the Democratic side, Bynum overwhelmingly secured renomination with 82.14% of the vote, defeating challenger Zeva Rosenbaum.
The race sets up a closely watched contest in one of Oregon’s most competitive congressional districts. Bynum defeated former Republican Congressman Lori Chavez-DeRemer in the 2024 general election after the district became a major national battleground. The race with Adair will tell if the district will remain dynamic and keep Bynum to a single term or show more stability this election.
Federal campaign finance filings show a significant fundraising disparity heading into the general election campaign. Adair’s campaign committee, “Patti Adair for Congress,” reported raising approximately $300,473 between November 2025 and April 29, 2026, including nearly $292,000 from individual contributors.
By comparison, Bynum’s campaign committee reported more than $3.13 million in total receipts during the same reporting period. Her fundraising included more than $1.8 million from individual contributors, more than $912,000 from other political committees, and approximately $391,000 transferred from other authorized committees.
Adair currently serves as a Deschutes County Commissioner and has built her campaign around on practical problem-solving and bipartisan cooperation. In her announcement, Adair said she is running to address rising electricity costs, improve healthcare affordability, support sustainable natural resource management, and promote policies that help Oregon businesses grow. She contrasted herself with incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative Janelle Bynum, criticizing Bynum as overly partisan and arguing the district needs an independent leader willing to work across party lines to deliver results for families and communities across the 5th District.
Janelle Bynum has positioned herself as a progressive Democrat focused on social programs, and opposition to the Trump administration. In recent months, Bynum praised Governor Tina Kotek’s “Prosperity Roadmap” economic agenda despite broader concerns over Oregon’s economic conditions, supported legislation exempting wildfire relief payments from federal taxes, and aligned with Democratic opposition to increased immigration enforcement funding, voting against a DHS funding bill calling funding for ICE “murder money” and accusing ICE of “state sponsored terrorism”.
Libertarian candidate Joseph Lehman has reported no funds raised according to FEC data as of the time of publication.
