BEAVERTON, Ore. — A candidate for Beaverton City Council was arrested Monday evening following a reported menacing incident near the Beaverton City Library, according to the Beaverton Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, to a report of a possible menacing incident near the library at 12375 SW 5th Street.
Investigators said the reporting party was involved in an encounter in which a man allegedly revealed he was armed with a handgun, causing the individual to fear for their safety and contact police.
Witnesses described the suspect as a white male in his 50s wearing a gray sweater and jeans. Police later identified the suspect as 46-year-old Antonio C. Pirog, who is currently a candidate for Beaverton City Council Position 5.
According to police, detectives arrested Pirog at approximately 9 p.m. Monday on charges of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.
Investigators said the case remains active as officers continue gathering evidence, including surveillance video and witness statements.
